UNY KKN Students Introduce Sport Massage to the Community

Students of the Yogyakarta State University (UNY) Community Service Program (KKN) in Pucuk Hamlet, Wagir Lor Village, Ngebel District, Ponorogo taught sports massage to local residents. This activity is to educate the importance of sports massage, because many residents do sports activities.

“Sports massage is a special massage method for the needs of an athlete or sportsperson. The massage method uses hands on the body’s muscles with manipulation techniques to smooth blood circulation and fluids in the body,” said Emma Harummi Pratiwi, one of the KKN student groups, Tuesday (17/9/2024).

However, she explained that sports massage is not only for athletes. This therapy can also be applied to the general public who like to do sports activities, to smooth blood circulation, stimulate nerves, and reduce muscle tension.

The students of the FIKK UNY Sports Science study program revealed the indicators of the need for sports massage. Especially if there is a condition of fatigue, then there is sleep disturbance, post-operative recovery or sub-acute and chronic injuries.

“However, sports massage should not be done if you have a fever, have wounds, infections or fractures,” said Emma. (r-ws/par)
